November Favourites – All the (Stranger) Things, a cool Kiwi and loads more!
While geekdom continues to dominate popular culture, there is just SO MUCH AMAZING stuff out there and it’s easy to miss some of the best bits. I thought it would be useful to give you a rundown of my favourite TV shows, films, books, podcasts and any other cool stuff that I may stumble upon. So here begins the first of my monthly favourites!
The return of Stranger Things
I, like everyone else on the planet with a Netflix log in, have binge-watched the hell out of the second season of Stranger Things. Apart from the weird episode that no one liked, the season was a triumph of story, ensemble cast and 80s nostalgia. Of course, as with every good fandom, the show has spawned an insane amount of content.
I’ve written about The Hillywood Show before and they have come up with the most amazing Stranger Things parody which sits shoulder to shoulder with their Sherlock, Supernatural,Suicide Squad and Doctor Who ones. I cannot recommend this enough in terms of attention to detail and just sheer love of the source material.
And the cast themselves have been doing the rounds on the promotional trail. I’ve seen some fun interviews but (James Corden aside) this is one of the more fun things. It just looks like a group of young guys having a blast.
I went to see the new Thor film with a bunch of my family and we all came out of the cinema with a smile all over our faces. The film was 100% fun from start to finish and it had Taika Waititi’s fingerprints all over it. If you have seen ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ or ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’, you will absolutely recognise his sense of humour. In fact, he steals the show as an unexpected character called Korg. I can’t wait to see what he does next!
I wrote a whole post on how obsessed I am with this TV show
Gearing up for a good December
This December is going to be difficult, it’s the first one that we will have without my Dad. So I’m trying to be both as busy and as positive as possible by filling the days with the people and activities that I love. I mentioned Wales Comic Con last week and OF COURSE, I’ve already booked tickets for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Throw in a birthday dinner with my family and several Christmas lunches with friends plus seeing all of my nephews open their presents will make the month much more bareable. This is always going to be someone missing at our table but I still want to enjoy the time I have with the people I love, who will be tucking into their chipolatas and wearing funny hats. Because that’s what my Dad would want.
What about you? What are you loving right now? Have you started your Christmas plans?
