Tell me why you don’t like Mondays?
Garfield would have you believe that it’s the worst day of the week. There are whole songs written about how awful that particular day is and so many internet memes about it that you automatically start to fear what the start of the week may bring.
But, dear readers, I’m here to argue the opposite! That, in fact, the beginning of the week has become the day that many fandoms can look forward too. So much so, that there is almost TOO MANY good things to look forward to on a Monday.
Let’s examine shall we?
I’ve written about my love for Kara Danvers AKA Supergirl on this blog before and I will continue to shout from the rooftops about how much fun this show is. A strong female lead, great ensemble cast and not being afraid of trying something different within the superhero genre – these are all plus points in my book. As season 3 begins, I have high hopes for what is fast becoming the highlight of my TV week. You can catch up with the adventures of Supergirl and the team in National City on Sky One or Now TV.
Outlander both beguiles and confuses the hell out of me. On one hand, it’s a pretty straight forward bodice-busting romance with lots of melodrama thrown in for good measure. But on the other hand, it has a time travelling element which no one makes any attempt at all to explain with science, it just ‘is’. I usually gasp out loud at least once per episode which makes it compulsive viewing. Even hearing the Scottish accents on screen doesn’t make me cringe as much as I thought it would. You can watch it for free if you are a member of Amazon Prime.
Star Trek Discovery
This is a new addition to my TV viewing calendar and one that I’m still on the fence about. I loved Sonequa Martin-Green in The Walking Dead so I was really pleased to see her return in a lead role in this newest branch of the Star Trek franchise. There are lots of things that tie this to the overall Star Trek model but I like that it’s trying to be a bit different and showing us the world of Starfleet through an outsiders point of view. With each episode, this is growing on me so I was delighted to hear that it has been renewed for a second season. I think it’s one to watch and you can do on Netflix.
The Walking Dead
Most people spend their Mondays feeling like a zombie so why not watch them too? As season 8 begins, Rick Grimes and his assorted friends are still trying to survive the zombie apocalypse where the greatest danger comes in the shape of real life live humans. For me, the highlight of recent seasons has been King Ezekiel and his tiger, Shiva. I would choose both of them to be a part of my zombie apocalypse escape plan! Lots of people seem to have given up on TWD but I still find something that I like in each episode that brings me back each week. You can watch on Sky One or catch up on Now TV.
Add all of this amazing goodness to the leftovers of whatever you were binge watching over the weekend and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Monday is the best day of the week for TV fandom right now! What do you think?
